About Child Art Therapy
Children naturally communicate through play, imagery, and creative expression. Traditional talk therapy can feel intimidating or challenging when young minds do not yet have the language to describe what they feel inside.
Child art therapy can bridge this gap. Guided by a registered psychotherapist and art therapist, children use drawing, painting, sculpting, and collage to externalize complex thoughts, work through difficult experiences, and develop healthy emotional regulation skills in a supportive, pressure-free environment.

PARTNERING WITH CAREGIVERS EVERY STEP OF THE WAY
You know your child best. We work closely alongside parents and caregivers to share insights, celebrate milestones, and offer practical, creative strategies to support emotional growth at home.

FAQs
Does my child need to be good at art?
Not at all. In art therapy, there is no good or bad art. We focus entirely on self-expression, discovery, and how the creative process feels, rather than the final product.
How does an art therapy session differ from a regular art class?
While art classes focus on instruction, technique, and end results, art therapy focuses on personal meaning, emotional processing, and mental wellness facilitated by a trained mental health professional.
Are sessions covered by extended health benefits?
Many workplace and private insurance plans in Ontario cover services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist (RP). We recommend checking with your specific insurance provider for details regarding your coverage.
Should I join my child during their session?
It depends on your child’s age, comfort level, and unique needs. For younger children or during initial sessions, having a caregiver in the room can help create a sense of safety and ease the transition.
As trust builds, individual sessions often give children the freedom to express feelings they might hesitate to share around family. We typically partner closely with caregivers through dedicated check-ins before or after sessions, ensuring you stay connected to their progress while honouring their personal creative space.
